ATLAS Youth Organization is a youth-led organization working to empower young people and promote inclusive, peaceful and sustainable development in Lamu County
Who we are
Atlas is a locally rooted community-based organization operating in Lamu County for six years. The organization provides leadership development, climate action, peacebuilding and mental health support for young people. Atlas is embedded within Lamu’s communities, has relationships across ethnic and religious lines, and understands the county’s complex social dynamics. We recognize that outsiders cannot build peace for communities only communities can build peace for themselves
OUR FOCUS AREAS
Our work focuses on areas that directly contribute to the wellbeing and development of young people and communities.
🕊️ Peace & Governance
We promote peaceful coexistence, responsible leadership and meaningful youth participation in governance. Through civic education, community dialogues, leadership development, social accountability and peacebuilding initiatives, we empower young people and communities to participate actively in shaping a peaceful, inclusive and accountable society.
🌱 Climate Justice & Environmental Conservation
We engage young people and communities in environmental conservation, climate action and sustainable practices that strengthen community resilience
❤️ Mental Health & Wellbeing
We promote mental health awareness, emotional wellbeing and resilience among young people and communities. Through awareness sessions, peer support, life-skills activities, sports, safe spaces and community dialogue, we help young people address mental health challenges, reduce stigma and build healthier, more supportive communities. We also connect individuals who require additional assistance with appropriate professional and support services.
👥 Youth Leadership
We empower young people to become confident, responsible and active leaders in their communities. Through leadership training, mentorship, civic education, youth dialogues and advocacy, we equip young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate meaningfully in governance and development. We create platforms where youth can engage decision-makers, champion community priorities and contribute to building inclusive, accountable and peaceful communities.

OUR ACTIVITIES
Witu Sports Dialogue
Witu Sports Dialogue is an Atlas Youth Organization initiative that uses sports to bring young people, community leaders, and aspiring leaders together for constructive dialogue on issues affecting the community. Through football and community discussions, the initiative promotes peaceful coexistence, youth leadership, civic participation, accountability, and community development. It creates a safe and inclusive space where young people can express their views, engage leaders, build relationships across communities, and discuss solutions to local challenges. The initiative demonstrates Atlas Youth Organization’s commitment to using sports as a tool for peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and social change in Lamu County
Climate-Smart Agriculture
Atlas Youth Organization promotes climate-smart agriculture as a pathway to strengthen food security, create youth livelihoods, and build resilience to climate change. We support young people and communities to adopt sustainable farming practices that make better use of available resources while protecting the environment. Our activities include tree planting, water conservation, organic farming, climate-resilient crops, and sustainable irrigation practices. We also encourage youth to explore agriculture as a viable business by promoting value addition, entrepreneurship, and access to markets. By combining traditional knowledge with improved agricultural practices, we aim to help communities adapt to changing weather patterns, reduce environmental degradation, and increase agricultural productivity. Our goal is to build resilient, environmentally responsible, and economically productive communities where young people can actively participate in sustainable agriculture and climate action.
